CME Equity Index Session

Editorial

The CME equity-index session is the regular trading session context for US equity index futures — the S&P 500, Nasdaq-100, Dow and Russell complexes. Session context helps a trader understand when a listed market is open; it does not identify a trade.

Chicago time reference

US equity index futures sessions are commonly referenced in Chicago time (America/Chicago). Trading hours and holiday schedules change throughout the year, so the official exchange source must be checked for the current schedule — never treat a static session time as permanent.

Why session context matters

Knowing when a market's regular session runs helps a trader understand when the benchmark and its derivatives are most active. It does not indicate what will happen in the market, when to trade, or whether a model setup will qualify.

Holiday and maintenance caveats

Exchange holidays and maintenance windows alter normal schedules. Always confirm the current calendar and hours on the official CME Group source before planning around a session.
